This is a full book summary of Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery. Anne is a young orphan girl who was adopted by old siblings from Avonlea, Canada.
Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery is a vintage classic story of a young red-headed orphan girl named Anne. It has been considered a classic children’s novel since the mid-20th century. Anne was born in Nova Scotia and lost her parents to a fever when she was only three months old. Anne was fostered by many but never owned by any. Anne always hoped for a loving family who would willingly take her as their own.
In the meantime, siblings Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, from Avonlea(both unmarried) decided to adopt a boy to help work on their farm. Matthew is in his 60’s and Marilla is in her 50’s. They were both living at Green Gables, a beautiful yet mesmerizing farm at the heart of Avonlea, a community Avonlea, a community located on Prince Edward Island. They both were bored of each other and also needed a boy for help at their farm since Matthew was getting easily tired nowadays. So they informed an adoption agency that they wanted a young boy for adoption.
Matthew went to the railway station to pick up the boy and found out the agency failed to provide them with a boy and brought a girl instead. Matthew had to take her along to the Green Gables. Marilla was so angry with the agency when she saw the girl.
On the other hand, the girl agency brought was our little Anne, who already fell in love with Green Gables and the Cuthberts. The Cuthberts decided to exchange her with a boy once they got in touch with the agency. But they grew to develop affection and care for Anne and decided to make her a Cuthbert.
Anne is a funny child- she is so cheerful, hopeful, and talkative. It’s impossible not to like her. Anne and Diana Barry become best friends from the moment they meet. She is the only girl of Anne’s age who lives close to Green Gables. Diana Barry was the daughter of William and Eliza Barry. She was the companion for Anne in all of her misadventures. Anne addressed Diana as her bosom friend and a kindred spirit.
The book proceeds through Anne’s school life. She does a lot of mischief a girl of her age would do. She made friends and enemies at her school. She was very active in school activities and proved her interest in literature. The handsome boy from school named Gilbert Blythe tries to win her heart though she refuses to speak to him or about him for a long time they will eventually fall for each other. Anne will get to her dream College along with her few friends to pursuing Bachelor’s degree in English.
By the end of the book a tragedy hits Anne and Marilla, Matthew dies of heart attack after learning that all of his and Marilla’s money has been lost in a bank failure. Anne left her studies behind and get back to green gables with her scholarship money so as to lookover old Marilla.
Conclusion:
This book summary gives you an idea of how much of a fanciful, imaginative, kind and dramatic of a kid Anne is. Throughout the book you through a lot of emotions, is funny, and makes you think. Anne was quite adamant that her name should end with an “E”. Anne of Green Gables is a well written book by L.M Montgomery and Anne will be always there in every reader’s heart.
